One innovation introduced by the model is the offering of “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence,” “Introduction to Basic Computer Technologies,” “Career Planning and Professional Ethics,” and “Social Responsibility and Justice”—for students in all departments of our Faculty of Science and Letters.
Another innovation introduced by the model is the updating and systematic organization of Professional Elective Courses, in addition to high-quality foundational education, to offer our students innovative certificate programs aimed at intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary scientific specialization. The certificate programs were designed based on a needs analysis and by soliciting input from internal stakeholders as well as external stakeholders—including alumni and industry representatives—to ensure that the learning outcomes to be achieved through the model are determined with the perspectives of all potential stakeholders in mind.
Furthermore, to support interdisciplinary interaction, our students are given the opportunity to participate not only in the certificate programs offered by their own departments but also, if they wish, in certificate programs offered by other departments within our Faculty.
To encourage our undergraduate students to engage in scientific research, we have implemented “Undergraduate Thesis Poster Presentations” and “Faculty Wednesday Seminars”; In addition, the “2209 A/B Science and Mathematics Student Workshop,” supported by TÜBİTAK, was organized to showcase completed or ongoing TÜBİTAK 2209-A/B projects by undergraduate students studying in basic science departments across the country.
To support our Faculty’s students who are dedicated to the teaching profession and intend to become teachers in the basic sciences, and to strengthen the contribution of basic science experts to secondary education, in accordance with a decision by the Council of Higher Education, the opportunity to complete their Pedagogical Training during their undergraduate studies, and this program was implemented in the Fall Semester of 2023–2024. Thus, our Faculty has become the only one at our University to implement this decision.
