About

As the Department of Mathematics at Yıldız Technical University, we aim to educate our students to become modern, entrepreneurial, inquisitive, self-confident, team-oriented individuals who are well-equipped in mathematics and have internalized analytical thinking; who are beneficial to the state and society, environmentally conscious, uphold ethical and responsible values, and are committed to continuous self-improvement.

The Department of Mathematics, which takes into account the academic, personal, and social needs of its students and faculty, keeps its course content and diversity up-to-date in line with modern life, thereby helping students develop themselves while mapping out their career paths and making significant contributions to their professional futures; serves as a resource for graduates facing challenges in terms of knowledge and technology; and supports the use of today’s technology. Our department leads the way in providing career opportunities for students seeking careers in science and technology through its undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, which feature a wide range of courses under the core areas of analysis and function theory, algebra and number theory, geometry, topology, and applied mathematics.

Mathematics students can take advantage of opportunities for lateral transfer, vertical transfer, double majors, and minors; they may also enroll in double major and minor programs in all departments at our University that admit students based on quantitative scores.

Starting in the 2022–2023 academic year, Professional Elective courses—which allow students to specialize in topics of their interest—have been enriched with specific courses from our University’s departments of Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mathematical Engineering, Business Administration, and Statistics.

Our undergraduate program offers students, provided they complete the required courses, the following certificates in addition to their bachelor’s degree:

  • a Certificate in Finance and Management Mathematics for students aiming to become entrepreneurs and/or managers,
  • a Software Certificate for students aiming to work in an industry where computer systems are used and developed,
  • and for students wishing to pursue graduate studies and/or become academics, a Certificate in Theoretical Mathematics that grants admission to the integrated Ph.D. program without an entrance exam

.

Our Department of Mathematics is recognized by scientific institutions both in Turkey and abroad, participates in student exchange programs with equivalent departments at universities overseas, and collaborates with various scientific fields.

Thanks to the Bologna Process—established by 48 countries to ensure the comparability and harmonization of higher education systems—the transition of our department’s students and faculty members from one higher education system to another has been facilitated.

Through the Erasmus and Mevlana Exchange Programs, our students and faculty members have the opportunity to study and teach at partner higher education institutions abroad. As a result, our students have become familiar with a different education and training system and the institutions integrated into that system; they have improved their foreign language skills; learned about the host country’s economy and working life; encountered different cultures; and gained the ability to communicate effectively; while our faculty members have the opportunity to participate in joint research projects. Through the Farabi Exchange Program, students and faculty members from partner higher education institutions within Turkey also have the opportunity to spend one or two semesters getting to know our Department.

Our Department boasts an academic staff that is productive, collaborative, well-equipped to conduct academic and teaching activities, actively engaged in current scientific research, and capable of maintaining constant communication with students. With a faculty comprising 17 Professors, 18 Associate Professors, 9 Assistant Professors, 1 Lecturer with a Ph.D., 9 Research Assistants, and 1 Foreign Faculty Member, as of 2025, we are responsible for the education of 447 undergraduate, 125 master’s, and 74 doctoral students, as well as for teaching the required courses in Mathematics, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations to students across all Engineering Faculties at our University.

Department faculty members organize international conferences; they continue their academic work at full speed by delivering presentations at various conferences and collaborating on joint projects with research teams. There are currently three active research groups led by our faculty members:
